Before Getting Lip Implants
Even if you’ve planned on getting lip implants for a long time, you may still feel unsure about what to expect before your procedure. It’s a great idea to learn as much as you can about lip enhancement beforehand so you can feel comfortable as your procedure date approaches.
You can request a consultation to meet with Dr. Joseph J. Castellano and learn more about what to expect before your lip augmentation, including during your consultation and just before your surgery. A Tampa Bay native, Dr. Castellano is well-known as one of the best cosmetic surgeons in the Tampa-St. Petersburg area.
What to Expect at Your Consultation
Your initial one-on-one consultation with Dr. Castellano is arguably the most important part of your lip enhancement experience. During your consultation, you’ll have the chance to discuss a number of aspects of your lip augmentation, including your overall appearance goals.
There is a range of topics that Dr. Castellano typically covers during a consultation:
Because everyone’s concerns are different, your exact consultation experience may vary. In general, you can expect to leave your consultation feeling much more qualified to make your final decision about moving forward with lip enhancement.
What to Expect before Surgery
Before your lip augmentation, Dr. Castellano may ask you to make some adjustments in your lifestyle. For instance, smokers will be asked to avoid tobacco for at least 2 weeks prior to their appointment. You should also avoid taking aspirin, ibuprofen and other blood-thinners. This will help your body heal as quickly as possible after your procedure and minimize your chances of complications.
Lip augmentation as a standalone procedure is almost always performed under local anesthesia, so you should be able to drive yourself home. However, it’s a good idea to bring along a friend or family member in case you don’t feel up to the drive. If your lip enhancement is performed in conjunction with other surgeries, Dr. Castellano may use general anesthesia, in which case you would need someone else to drive you home after and help care for you during the first few days of your recovery.
Once your medical and personal preparations are in order, you’re ready for your lip augmentation. Planning as much as possible about your procedure, including steps to take before and after getting lip implants, is one of the best ways to ensure you have a positive experience.
