After any cosmetic surgery, you’ll need to wait to see your final results. The body naturally swells and bruises and your incisions will need to heal. However, with a boob job, there is one more step you need to wait on: the drop and fluff after breast augmentation.
While the term sounds odd, it is a perfectly normal part of the breast augmentation process. Here’s what you need to know about it.
The Drop
Directly after breast augmentation surgery, the implants sit high on the chest and have an overly round appearance. Then, gravity starts to do its job. Over time, the implant settles into the bottom space of the breast, allowing it to sit more naturally and take on a more teardrop shape.
In most cases, the implants do this at slightly different rates, so you may look a bit unbalanced for a short time.
The Fluff
Fluffing is just another way of talking about skin expansion. Whether your implants are placed under the muscle or over, the skin is going to be stretched due to the increased volume in your chest.
As the skin adjusts, it becomes less tight, allowing the breasts to take on a more natural shape. And just like the drop, this can happen at different rates for each breast, so don’t panic if things seem uneven for a while.
Keep in mind that the drop and fluff process isn’t fast. For most patients, it takes somewhere between 3 and 6 months. So be patient and know that your final results are coming. It just might be about half a year before you can truly see them.
