BOTOX® is an FDA-approved injectable treatment made from a purified form of botulinum toxin type A. It works by temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause expression lines like frown lines, forehead creases and crow’s feet. When these muscles are relaxed, the skin above them smooths out, creating a softer, more refreshed appearance. Our skilled injectors are able to create very smooth, natural-looking results that do not appear “frozen” or “done.”

It only takes about 15 minutes or less to administer BOTOX, and there is no downtime afterward. Over time, BOTOX will fade away, so touch-up treatments are typically needed  every 3 to 4 months to maintain results.

You can expect your BOTOX® appointment to be quick, simple and without downtime. The entire process usually takes 15 to 30 minutes from start to finish, including prep time, depending on how many areas are being treated.

To begin, your provider will clean and prep the skin and carefully assess your facial anatomy to determine the best placement for your injections. BOTOX is placed precisely into specific muscles using a very fine needle, and most patients describe the sensation as a quick pinch or tiny prick. If you’re concerned about discomfort, a topical numbing cream can be applied beforehand.

The number of injections you’ll need depends on your treatment goals. For example:

• Forehead lines may require around 10 to 30 units.
• Frown lines typically need 15 to 25 units.
• Crow’s feet may require 5 to 15 units per side.

Your provider will discuss the exact amount needed based on your muscle strength, facial movement and desired results. Once your BOTOX injections are complete, you will be able to return to work or home and resume normal daily activities.

While BOTOX does not require any formal downtime, we do recommend that you avoid strenuous exercise for at least the first 24 hours after your appointment. You should also refrain from rubbing or massaging the treated area, and try to keep your head elevated for a few hours. This will help to ensure optimal results and minimize swelling.

You should begin to see your results developing over the next 3 to 5 days, although it can take up to 2 weeks to see your final results.

Since the effects of this injectable are temporary, you will see a very gradual return to your pre-treatment state over time. Many of our Tampa patients simply arrange for regular, ongoing treatment sessions to take place every few months in order to retain their new look.

Since BOTOX Cosmetic is not a filler, it does not add volume and cannot be used to fill in very deep wrinkles, lines or scars. Treatment of these cosmetic concerns will require a dermal filler. Laser resurfacing may also be used alongside BOTOX to improve skin tone, texture and reduce the appearance of stubborn lines or pigmentation.
