Breast Augmentation and Lift
Many women have a very specific look in mind when considering breast augmentation: the high, firm profile seen in younger women who are naturally curvy. While breast implants can boost your cup size, they won’t improve your breast placement or position. Combining a breast augmentation with a breast lift can bring out the best in both procedures for a better final result.
There are a number of reasons for women to consider a more comprehensive breast enhancement that includes an increase in volume as well as a change in placement. Breasts often change in appearance after pregnancy and nursing or following weight loss. Women may also want the more proportionate figure that can be achieved by combining a breast lift with implants, or they may wish to improve asymmetry between their breasts.
Request a consultation to meet with Dr. Joseph J. Castellano and learn more about your options for combining a breast lift with your implants. A native of Tampa Bay, Dr. Castellano is a skilled and highly dedicated cosmetic surgeon whose primary goal is ensuring a positive experience along with beautiful results.
When Combining a Breast Augmentation and Lift Is Right
The best candidates for a breast augmentation and lift should be in good physical and mental health overall and have realistic expectations about the results of their procedure. You should also think about your preferred level of physical activity, and whether you may want to have more children or breastfeed in the future.

What to Expect
Any breast enhancement begins with a consultation with Dr. Castellano. During this initial discussion, Dr. Castellano will talk to you about your ideal results and conduct a physical evaluation to ensure that combining a breast lift with implants will help you meet those goals.
There are a number of decisions that need to be made before your breast augmentation and lift, such as which breast implant options you prefer. Dr. Castellano will explain the differences between saline and silicone gel breast implants so you can choose the implant type that’s best for you, as well as talking about your new breast size. Finally, he’ll go over the surgical techniques he can use to achieve the best results, and explain more about what you can expect during your surgery and recovery.
There are a few different grades of ptosis (sagging) that can occur in the breasts, and not all of them require a lift with your implants. Generally speaking, you may be a candidate for a combination lift with implants if your nipples are positioned at or below the inframammary fold (the natural crease underneath the breast) or if your nipples point downward. The nipples and areola can be resized and centered as part of your breast enhancement as well.
The procedure itself will take between one and two hours, not including the pre-surgical preparation time or your postoperative recovery. Most often, breast lift incisions are made around the areola and then extend vertically down to the breast crease, although the specific incision placement may vary depending on your anatomy and the level of correction needed. While some scarring on the breast is unavoidable, this should fade significantly over time.
Recovery and Results
Recovery after a breast lift with implants is similar to the recovery from either surgery performed on its own. You may notice discomfort for the first few days, and Dr. Castellano will have you wear a special support bra full-time for the first few weeks. Although every woman’s body responds to surgery differently, most patients find they can return to their normal daily routine within the first week and resume more vigorous activities after about a month.
In the first year after surgery, you should notice that your scars fade dramatically, often continuing to improve well into the second year after your procedure. Your lifted breasts will feel firmer and sit higher on your chest, while implants add volume for a curvier look. Large or downward-pointed nipples should be smaller and placed more centrally. While your breasts will still be affected by age and gravity, a breast lift is a permanent procedure that should give you long-lasting results, with or without implants.
With Other Procedures
A combination breast augmentation and lift is often performed as part of a mommy makeover, typically with body contouring procedures like a tummy tuck and liposuction as well. Dr. Castellano will talk with you about your goals in more detail so he can recommend the combination of procedures that he feels will work best for your body.
