When Laser Tattoo Removal Is Right
If you’ve got a tattoo or multiple tattoos that you regret or simply no longer like the look of, you’ve probably considered tattoo removal. Although there are several ways to eliminate a tattoo, including dermabrasion and surgical removal, laser tattoo removal is the most effective method for getting rid of unwanted ink. The PicoWay® laser can safely remove tattoos from just about anywhere on the body. Part of what makes PicoWay® an excellent tattoo removal option is that it offers proven results when dealing with a range of colors.
WHAT TO EXPECT
At Castellano Cosmetic Surgery Center, laser tattoo removal is done on an outpatient basis. To prepare the skin for laser tattoo removal, a topical anesthesia may be applied and the treatment area will be cleansed. Dr. Castellano or his laser technician may also outline the tattoo with a specialized white pen, to protect the surrounding skin.
The PicoWay® laser uses laser energy that pulses at about one-trillionth of a second, gently penetrating the skin to dissolve pigment, without the use of heat. The ink particles are then naturally absorbed by the body’s metabolic processes over the course of several weeks. The treatment time will vary depending upon the size of the tattoo to be treated, as well as the color or colors of the ink. However, most laser tattoo removal sessions last just 20 minutes, and small tattoos can be treated in even less time.
RECOVERY AND RESULTS
Most people will require multiple laser tattoo removal sessions in order to achieve optimal results, as the body needs time to process the treated ink. PicoWay® laser tattoo removal can eliminate all tints and pigment colors, but it’s most effective at removing black and darker inks. Each PicoWay® treatment is typically scheduled approximately 8 to 12 weeks apart. It’s important to avoid sun exposure and tanning beds in between laser tattoo removal sessions.
