The skin on the face is delicate, and will begin losing elasticity and start sagging as a result of age and gravity. A facelift from Tampa cosmetic surgeon Dr. Joseph J. Castellano will help smooth out the most pronounced wrinkles, while also addressing the looseness which defines aging skin. Although no one can completely prevent the aging process, a facelift is a proven surgical method to dramatically reverse some of the more pronounced effects of aging.

When a Facelift Is Right
The men and women who are most happy with their facelift results are those who have maintained realistic expectations about what the procedure can achieve. Some people may be better candidates for the Silhouette InstaLift™, a nonsurgical alternative to traditional facelift surgery. Most facelift patients are in their 40s to 60s, and should be in good mental and physical health overall. A facelift will not make you look like you’re in your 20s again, although the major signs of aging can be greatly reduced. The most successful facelifts don’t look obviously surgical, but instead help you look like you have a newfound health and vitality.
What to Expect
Following a facelift, Tampa locals can expect to look younger and more refreshed-looking. The procedure itself requires Dr. Castellano to make several incisions in key locations of the face, usually hidden behind the ear and beyond the hairline. The underlying framework of facial muscles is pulled together and tightened. Any excess skin and fat will be removed for additional sculpting, and finally the facial skin will be redraped across the refreshed underlying musculature.
The surgery may take two to four hours or more, depending on how extensive the procedure is and whether any other procedures are included as well. Dr. Castellano may use one of several different techniques which can also affect procedure length. The technique used depends on how much correction is needed and which area of the face specifically needs to be addressed.
Recovery and Results
After the procedure, swelling and bruising are both very common, which some patients may find discouraging at first. Patients may also feel a tightness or other mild discomfort in their faces. Have faith that even though your results may take some time to be revealed, your look will be improved following surgery. The most noticeable bruising and swelling should fade within a few weeks, although it may take several weeks for the final results of your facelift to become fully apparent.
The results of your facelift will be permanent, but of course nothing can entirely prevent the aging process. A facelift is a very effective way to turn back the clock by several years and remain younger-looking for longer. Further signs of aging following your procedure may be minimized by wearing sunscreen and taking good care of your skin.
With Other Procedures
Many people choose to have several procedures performed in addition to their facelift in order to achieve a comprehensive re-freshening. A brow lift or eyelid surgery can help to create a dramatically younger look. A neck lift is another procedure that is commonly combined in facelift patients, as they address the same root issues of sagging, drooping skin. In addition, non-surgical procedures such as BOTOX® Cosmetic or laser resurfacing may be performed to improve the appearance of surface facial skin.
