Although many women who want their breasts to appear more attractive think that breast augmentation is their only option, a more youthful shape and position is possible through a breast lift. Tampa women whose breasts have fallen due to age, gravity or as a result of body changes such as weight loss or pregnancy may be able to achieve a fuller, younger-looking silhouette through a breast lift from Castellano Cosmetic Surgery Center.
Request a consultation at our practice to meet with Dr. Joseph J. Castellano and learn more about your breast lift options. A Tampa cosmetic surgeon with advanced training in cosmetic techniques and aesthetic medicine, Dr. Castellano has the skill and experience necessary to help you look your best, while at the same time ensuring a positive, comfortable experience.
When a Breast Lift Is Right
The women who are happiest with their breast lift procedure are those who have maintained realistic expectations and who are also in good general health. Tampa breast lift candidates should already be able to maintain a steady body weight. Women whose breasts have a sagging appearance, lack of fullness in the upper breast, or have downward-pointing nipples may all be good candidates for a breast lift.
What to Expect
Prior to the surgery itself, all of our patients will first schedule an individual consultation with Dr. Castellano. This meeting will ensure that patient and doctor are on the same page about the desired results of the procedure.
During surgery, there are several different techniques that may be used, depending on the patient’s needs and how much correction is needed. During the procedure, each breast will be lifted and reshaped into a rounder, more youthful appearance, and the nipple will be relocated in a central position on the breast.
Every effort is made to ensure that the incisions are placed as inconspicuously as possible to minimize scarring. In general, incisions span around the areola and down to the breast crease. The incision also may extend within the breast crease. Some scarring on the breast is inevitable, but scars should fade significantly over time.
Recovery and Results
Many women report that their breast lift was more comfortable than they expected, although some discomfort and soreness after the surgery is typical. Often, light activities can be resumed within the very first week following surgery. Low-impact exercise is possible about two weeks after surgery, with more vigorous activity to follow after another month. For the first few weeks, a special support bra must be worn 24 hours per day. This will help reduce swelling as well as offer support to the breasts, which will facilitate the healing process and ensure correct final breast placement.
The scars should fade dramatically over the first year, and often continue fading well into the second year following surgery. Breasts will be both firmer and sit higher on the chest. If nipples previously pointed downward, they will now be placed more centrally. Although your breasts will still be affected by gravity and aging, a breast lift is a permanent procedure that will help minimize and slow that process.
With Other Procedures
Some women may choose to combine a breast lift with breast augmentation. This is because a breast lift by itself does not actually increase your natural breast size, and may in fact slightly decrease total breast volume. An augmentation includes the addition of a breast implant to increase breast size, while the lift will ensure that the breasts are high and firm. Combining these procedures leads to enhanced results, and is easier on the body than undergoing two separate surgeries and recovery periods.
