What Is Liposuction?
Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery that can slim and shape specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits. This technique can be used on the waist, abdomen, thighs, hips, chest, arms or most anywhere unwanted excess fat has settled. Lipo is not a “cure” for obesity, as the procedure is not intended for weight loss, nor does liposuction improve cellulite or loose skin. However, for men within 30 percent of their ideal weight, liposuction can be an effective way to refine their body contours.
Why Do Men Get Liposuction?
Men, like women, choose liposuction for a variety of reasons. Many of my male patients hope to slim away unwanted fat that they haven’t been able to lose through diet and exercise. Plus, men often have fewer stretch marks and better skin elasticity than women (a side effect of not bearing children), which may mean even better results.
For some men, the ultimate goal may not be not about fat loss at all. Liposuction can improve muscle tone and definition by giving that coveted “ripped” appearance to abs, pectorals and thighs. Along with physical changes, the results of liposuction can extend to greater self-esteem, confidence and quality of life.
The rise in men undergoing liposuction to reach their body contouring goals proves that liposuction certainly doesn’t have to be exclusive to a single gender. Men may find that liposuction is just what they’re looking for to help achieve their ideal physical results.
