Don’t Let These 6 Breast Implant Myths Hold You Back

Don’t Let These 6 Breast Implant Myths Hold You Back img 1It’s no secret that the internet is full of all kinds of myths, as well as its fair share of useful information. But the key is to be able to distinguish between the two so that you can make the best informed decision. When it comes to doing your own research before deciding if breast implants are right for you, it’s important to first separate fact from fiction. Here are some of the most common myths about breast augmentation and the facts that have them debunked.

Myth 1. Breast Implants Always Look Fake

Somewhere along the way, the idea of the Barbie doll-esque, over-the-top boob job has become a bit of a stereotype for all breast augmentation results. But that couldn’t be farther from the truth. The reality is that a skilled cosmetic surgeon can create very natural-looking and feeling results that don’t look “done” or fake at all.

Myth 2. All Implants Have to Be Huge

Think all implants have to be “go big or go home”? Think again. In fact, the latest trend in breast enhancement is moving toward smaller, more modestly-sized implants rather than their larger counterparts.

More so than simply deciding how big you can go, it’s important to determine the most appropriate size for your natural body shape and proportions so that your results can still look effortless while offering a subtle boost of volume.

The key is to choose the right implants for your body type, whether that’s big, small or somewhere in between.

Myth 3. You Can’t Breastfeed with Implants

If the ability to breastfeed in the future is important to you, don’t think that you have to rule out the possibility of getting implants. This is something to discuss with your cosmetic surgeon during your consultation, as there are a number of different incision and placement techniques that can help to ensure that you’ll be able to have the best of both worlds: maintain your ability to breastfeed while enjoying the figure you want.

Myth 4. Athletic Women Shouldn’t Get Implants

This is a common concern among women who want to remain active, healthy and fit but who also wouldn’t mind boosting their breast size. Depending on your level of physical activity, you may want to consider subglandular implant placement rather than submuscular.

Because subglandular implants are placed on top of the chest muscle and not beneath it, this can be an excellent option for women considering breast augmentation but who don’t want to interfere with their athletic ability.

Myth 5. There’s a Right and a Wrong Type of Implant

There are plenty of myths out there about which implant type is better: saline or silicone. The truth is, though, that each type has its own unique benefits, and, ultimately, the choice is yours to make. If you’re having trouble deciding which one might be the best choice for you, discuss your options with your cosmetic surgeon. He or she should be able to help you decide based on your body type and individual goals.

Myth 6. Recovery Is Painful

While you are going to have to plan some downtime following your procedure to allow your body to rest and recuperate, your recovery period isn’t something to dread. While everyone will recover differently and a varying rate, generally speaking, you can expect to be able to return to work and normal daily activities within 1 to 2 weeks.

In the meantime, following the recovery guidelines given to you by your cosmetic surgeon, as well as taking any prescribed pain medications can help to make your recovery as smooth and comfortable as possible.
