If you’ve had breast implants for a while, you may be wondering if you need to get new ones. Some women may have had their implants for a number of years and want to update their look or just try a different type – perhaps you have saline implants and you’d like to switch over to silicone implants, for example. So when should you consider breast implant replacement?
Capsular Contracture
Capsular contracture is the hardening of scar tissue around the implant. Although scar tissue growth is a normal condition that happens during the healing process, over time its development may become excessive and start to shrink, which can be painful and cause the breast to feel hard. Removing the scar tissue and replacing implants can give you a soft, full look again.
Implant Issues
Implants can become displaced or damaged over time due to a number of factors, and the chances of implant issues occurring increase the longer you have implants as well. Certainly, if you have concerns that an implant is damaged or has shifted out of position, it’s important that you look into breast implant revision as soon as possible.
Updating Your Look
What if you’re not having any complications and just want a change in your appearance? That’s okay, too. Many women want to get bigger breasts or maybe want to go down a size. Since the first introduction of breast implants, there are now more implant choices available as well. It’s not uncommon for women to upgrade from an older implant model to the latest type of breast implants that look and feel more natural than ever.
