Breast Augmentation/Lift FAQs

Moving forward with any cosmetic procedure can feel like a huge decision. When combining multiple procedures, it’s common for patients to have lots of questions, and they don’t always seem to be answered in standard online FAQs. Here, our surgeons address some of the most commonly asked questions and concerns from Tampa-St. Petersburg women about his combined breast augmentation and lift surgery. If you have questions about combined breast augmentation and lift surgery that aren’t answered here, contact us online today to schedule a consultation.

How much does a breast augmentation with lift cost in Tampa?

The cost of combining breast augmentation with a lift varies depending on the surgical plan, implant type, anesthesia fees, facility fees and other factors. Because each procedure is tailored to your anatomy and goals, the best way to get an accurate estimate is during a consultation where all factors can be reviewed together.

What is the difference between a breast augmentation and a breast lift?

A breast augmentation uses implants to increase volume, while a breast lift (mastopexy) removes and tightens loose skin to lift and reshape the breasts. When both volume loss and sagging are present, combining augmentation with a lift can produce a more youthful contour and balanced profile.

How do I know if I need a combined breast augmentation and breast lift?

Deciding whether to undergo any cosmetic surgery can be a difficult process, and when it’s two surgeries combined, it can make you feel twice as indecisive. Good candidates for combined breast augmentation and lift procedures are women who would like to add some volume to their breasts while correcting sagging and nipple placement at the same time. Remember that sagging can increase with size as well as age, so if you’re already somewhat concerned about sagging pre-augmentation, adding a breast lift to your surgery may be the right choice.

If you’ve done your research and still feel unsure, my recommendation is to come in for a consultation. Sometimes, just talking with a cosmetic surgeon who has performed the combined procedures many times can help you gain some clarity on whether it’s the right step for you.

When is the best time to consider a breast lift with augmentation?

Ideal timing is after major weight changes and when future pregnancies or breastfeeding are complete. Stable weight and overall health allow for more predictable outcomes and long-term satisfaction with the results of both lift and volume enhancement.

What is recovery like after a combined breast augmentation and lift?

I usually recommend combining procedures for a few reasons. For one, it’s less stressful both physically and mentally to undergo one surgery instead of two. It also means you only have to deal with one recovery period, plus you won’t have that in-between time when your goals haven’t been fully met and you may feel unhappy with your appearance. Finally, surgical costs can be reduced by combining procedures.

Can a small amount of breast sagging be corrected with just breast implants?

Many women in your position are good candidates for a combined lift and implant procedure. However, it is true that women with a very mild degree of sagging can sometimes perk up their breasts with a small implant. Whether this is a reasonable option for you depends largely on the current state of your breasts. If your breasts are of a small to moderate size and you have very minimal sagging, implants alone may work. However, if your breast size is moderate to large or your sagging is more prominent, it may be a better option to undergo a combined augmentation and lift procedure. Also keep in mind that your breasts — and sagging in particular — will continue to change over time, so getting a breast lift now can help you maintain a youthful profile in future years.

What is the scarring like for a combined breast augmentation and lift?

As with all surgeries, some amount of scarring is unavoidable, but it may surprise you to learn that there is actually potential for less scarring when combining a breast lift with implants. The reason for this is because during a breast lift, excess skin is trimmed away. When implants are inserted before the lift, the breasts fill out and there is usually less skin to excise than if you had gotten a lift alone.

How long will the results last after a breast augmentation with lift?

Both breast augmentation and a breast lift are designed to be long-lasting, and that goal doesn’t change when procedures are combined. However, with implants, there is always the chance that you may need to have revision surgery at some point in the future. Additionally, although a lift can correct some degree of sagging, your body will continue to change with weight fluctuations, lifestyle and age.

Can I breastfeed after a breast augmentation with lift?

Many women retain the ability to breastfeed after this procedure, but it isn’t guaranteed. Factors like incision placement and the amount of tissue manipulation can influence breastfeeding ability. Discussing your future family plans with your surgeon at your consultation will help to guide incision choices.

Will I lose nipple sensation after a breast augmentation and lift?

Temporary changes in nipple or breast sensation are common after surgery, but most patients regain normal feeling over time. In rare instances, permanent changes to sensation may occur.

How long is the recovery period?

Initial recovery typically takes about 1 to 2 weeks, during which time you’ll gradually return to light activities. Full recovery, including resuming exercise and more strenuous activities, is usually expected around 6 to 8 weeks, but individual timelines vary.

What are the risks of combining a breast lift with augmentation?

While combining procedures can increase the complexity and surgery time compared to a single technique, risks do not greatly increase with this combination procedure. Potential risks are similar to those of any standalone breast procedure and can include scarring, asymmetry, implant issues or delayed healing.

Does insurance cover the cost of a breast augmentation and lift?

No, most insurance plans do not cover the cost of breast augmentation with a lift, since this is considered an elective procedure.

Does breast augmentation always include a lift?

No. Many women are able to achieve their desired results with implants alone, while others require a lift to address sagging or nipple position.

How painful is a breast lift with implants?

Most patients experience moderate discomfort in the first few days, which is well managed with prescribed pain medication and typically improves quickly.

What’s the best age for a breast lift with implants?

There is no “ideal” age for this procedure. Candidates range from their 20s to 60s, as long as they are in good health and have realistic expectations.

How long does a breast lift with implants last?

Results tend to be very long-lasting, but factors such as aging, weight fluctuations and pregnancy can affect breast shape over time.

What should I do to prepare for surgery?

Preparing for surgery typically involves completing any required medical evaluations, avoiding smoking and certain medications that can increase bleeding risk, arranging support at home and planning time off work. Your surgeon will provide detailed instructions to help you get ready for a successful procedure and recovery.
