Mommy Makeover FAQ

If you’ve been considering a mommy makeover, you probably want to know more about what to expect. Here, Dr. Joseph J. Castellano answers the most commonly asked questions our patients have about Mommy Makeovers. You can also request a consultation with Dr. Castellano, who has helped men and women from Tampa-St. Petersburg to Orlando feel and look their best through a variety of cosmetic procedures.

What is a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover consists of a combination of procedures designed to address the physical changes that arise after the childbearing years specifically due to pregnancy, nursing and the effects of aging and gravity.

Am I a candidate?

The best candidates for a mommy makeovers are women who are in good physical and mental health, yet have noticed permanent changes in their bodies as the results of pregnancy, nursing or aging. A mommy makeover isn’t a weight loss solution, so the ideal candidates will have already reached their target weight and have maintained it for several months. Women should not be currently pregnant or nursing, and should wait at least six months after weaning before pursuing cosmetic surgery. Since future pregnancies could have a negative impact on your mommy makeover, it’s a good idea to wait until you’re sure you’re finished having children prior to scheduling an appointment.

Which procedures does a Mommy Makeover typically include?

The beauty of the mommy makeover is that it is 100 percent customizable for each woman’s individual needs. So, for example, if one patient is happy with her natural breast size but just wants her profile to look fuller and perkier, a breast lift may be best for her. Another woman, however, may want to augment her breasts and perhaps include some liposuction around her midsection. The most commonly included procedures of a mommy Makeover are:

In some cases, a thigh lift, arm lift or vaginal rejuvenation may be incorporated as well. Dr. Castellano will work with you to design the ideal approach to address your appearance concerns.

I’m happy with my current breast size. Do I have to include breast augmentation with my Mommy Makeover?

Not at all. The beauty of a mommy makeover is that it’s completely individualized to each woman’s unique concerns. The idea is to address the parts of your body that you feel need a boost while making the most out of your natural assets. Regardless of what other women choose, Dr. Castellano is completely committed to ensuring that you feel comfortable and positive about your preferences for a mommy makeover.

What should I expect during surgery?

Before your procedure, Dr. Castellano will discuss your appearance goals so that he has a clear understanding of your hopes following the procedure. The surgery itself will vary in technique and time, depending on which individual procedures are being performed as well as the level of correction needed. Dr. Castellano will go over each surgery with you in more detail so you know exactly what to expect.

What should I expect during recovery?

Following your mommy makeover, you can expect to feel a little sore and uncomfortable at first, usually accompanied by some swelling. Dr. Castellano may ask you to wear a special garment to support your new shape and help you feel more comfortable, and which will also help swelling dissipate more quickly. Most mommy makeover patients are back to their normal daily routine within a week or two, but more vigorous activities should wait until you feel more comfortable.

Will I have scars after my Mommy Makeover?

Scars after any surgery are inevitable, but Dr. Castellano makes every effort to ensure that you’ll heal beautifully. He also carefully places incisions where they’ll be hidden by your favorite bra or bikini bottoms whenever possible. Most women are so pleased with their end results that scars are not a concern.

How long until I see results?

You should notice a difference almost right away after your surgery, with the effects becoming more apparent as post-operative swelling dissipates. Most patients can see their final results after a few months.
