Talk to almost any woman and she’ll tell you that her breasts are not a perfect pair. Nearly all females experience some degree of breast asymmetry. Differences in breast size can range from subtle to substantial, and the more pronounced the breast asymmetry is, the more likely it can have a negative impact on emotional well-being and self-image.
Implants to the Rescue
For women with significant disparity in breast size, breast implants can help. A properly sized implant can add volume and shape to the smaller of two breasts to improve asymmetry. Because each woman has a unique anatomy and specific aesthetic goals, the type of implant will vary. For some, a single breast implant is sufficient to equalize the breasts. For others, a breast implant may be used in combination with a breast lift or a breast reduction in order to achieve natural looking and symmetrical breasts.
Lift and Balance
Breasts can sag as a result of a number of factors. Weight gain, pregnancy, breastfeeding or the aging process can all stretch the skin and cause breasts to droop. A breast lift, or mastopexy, can remove excess tissue and fat, elevating the breast to a higher position on the chest wall. The procedure can also reposition the areola for a more flattering, proportionate appearance. Women with significant asymmetry may benefit from a breast lift in one or both breasts, in addition to an implant in the smaller breast.
Reduce and Resize
For some women, difference in breast size is considerable. This situation can be addressed by surgically reducing the size of the larger breast with a breast reduction and adding volume to the smaller breast with an implant.
