Breast Augmentation & Lift
At our award-winning practice in Tampa, many women come to us seeking a very specific look for their breast augmentation: high, firm profile often seen in younger women who are naturally curvy.
While breast implants can boost your cup size, they won’t improve your breast placement or position. Combining a breast augmentation with a breast lift can bring out the best in both procedures for a better final result.
There are a number of reasons for women to consider a more comprehensive breast enhancement. Here are some of the most common reason our patients seek breast augmentation with lift surgery.
- Increase volume as well as a change in placement
- Restore breast appearance after pregnancy, nursing or weight loss
- Improve asymmetry between their breasts.
- Achieve a more proportionate figure.

When You Should Combine a Breast Lift and Implants
The best candidates for a breast augmentation and lift should be in good physical and mental health overall and have realistic expectations about the results of their procedure. You should also think about your preferred level of physical activity, and whether you may want to have more children or breastfeed in the future.
There are a few different grades of ptosis (sagging) that can occur in the breasts, and not all of them require a lift with your implants.
Generally speaking, you may be a candidate for a combination lift with implants if your nipples are positioned at or below the inframammary fold (the natural crease underneath the breast) or if your nipples point downward.
Your Breast Augmentation and Lift Options
There are a number of decisions that need to be made before your breast augmentation and lift, including the type of breast implant, the size of implant and the preferred surgical technique to give you the best outcome.
Your surgeon will explain the differences between saline and silicone gel breast implants so you can choose the implant type that’s best for you, as well as talking about your new breast size.
He may have you try on external breast implant sizers so that you can get an idea of what the different sizes of implant will look like on your body.
Finally, he’ll go over the surgical techniques he can use to achieve the best results, and explain more about what you can expect during your surgery and recovery.

What to Expect
During Your Consultation
Any breast enhancement begins with a consultation at our office. During this initial discussion, your surgeon will talk to you about your ideal results and conduct a physical evaluation to ensure that combining a breast lift with implants will help you meet those goals.
Pricing for breast augmentation with lift depends on your personalized treatment plan (technique, anesthesia, and whether procedures are combined). For current starting points, see our Pricing page. You’ll receive a written, personalized quote at your consultation.
During Your Procedure
The procedure itself will take between 1 and 2 hours, not including the pre-surgical preparation time or your postoperative recovery. Most often, breast lift incisions are made around the areola and then extend vertically down to the breast crease.
The nipples and areola can be resized and centered as part of your breast enhancement as well.
The specific incision placement may vary depending on your anatomy and the level of correction needed. While some scarring on the breast is unavoidable, this should fade significantly over time.

Recovery and Results
Recovery after a breast lift with implants is similar to the recovery from either surgery performed on its own.
- Plan to take at least a week off of work and other daily duties so that you can simply rest and recover.
- For the first week of recovery, you’ll need to sleep in a reclined position. Extra pillows can help to keep you comfortably propped up.
- Cold compresses can help to reduce swelling and promote healing.
- Have stool softeners on hand to relieve constipation, a common side effect of pain medication.
- Buy a few loose-fitting, comfortable bras, as tight underwire bras may be uncomfortable at first.
Although every woman’s body responds to surgery differently, most patients find they can return to their normal daily routine within the first week and resume more vigorous activities after about a month.
In the first year after surgery, you should notice that your scars fade dramatically, often continuing to improve well into the second year after your procedure. Your lifted breasts will feel firmer and sit higher on your chest, while implants add volume for a curvier look. Large or downward-pointed nipples should be smaller and placed more centrally.

With Other Procedures
A combination breast augmentation and lift is often performed as part of a mommy makeover, typically with body contouring procedures like a tummy tuck and liposuction as well.
Your surgeon will talk with you about your goals in more detail so he can recommend the combination of procedures that he feels will work best for your body.
