How to Make the Most of Your Rhinoplasty Recovery

Rhinoplasty, also commonly referred to as a nose job, is a common cosmetic procedure that addresses both medical and aesthetic concerns. While rhinoplasty can yield excellent results to restore proper breathing or to improve the overall look of your nose, there are a few tips you’ll want to keep in mind during your recovery to make sure you get the most out of your procedure.

1. Keep Your Head Elevated

To help your recovery move along smoothly, try to keep your head elevated whenever possible. Relaxing in a recliner and sleeping with two pillows under your head are good ways to stay comfortable while also maximizing your healing process.

2. Take Pain Medication and Antihistamines

Your cosmetic surgeon will likely prescribe you pain medication and antihistamines to help ease any discomfort following your rhinoplasty. Take these medications as needed, but do try to switch to Tylenol as soon as possible to avoid unwanted side effects like constipation. Remember not to take Advil or aspirin for at least 2 weeks following your procedure, as these can thin your blood.

3. Take Deep Breaths

Don’t be afraid to take lots of deep breaths and get up and walk around during your recovery. This will increase your circulation and help to prevent blood clots.

4. Don’t Overexert Yourself Too Soon

Plan to avoid heavy lifting and other strenuous activities for at least 3 weeks after your rhinoplasty. Rushing back into your normal routine can lead to complications during recovery that could hinder the quality of your results. Just be patient with yourself and allow your body the time it needs to heal safely and effectively.
